Kalangarai
Kalangarai is a non-profit organization with the dream of empowering the widowed and deserted women of India. Our main office is in the Nagapattinam district where the tsunami of December 2004 transformed women into widows and left families in shambles. Kalangarai is founded on the promise of realized rights for the widowed and diserted women of India. Our main objective is to empower these women to become self-reliant. Together we can help create a eco-society where there is no discrimination based on gender, caste, and creed.
Friends of Kalangarai is a non-profit organization in the U.S. that supports the community-based programs of Kalangarai. These programs include micro-credit self-help groups, skills training, children’s educational programs, and a community college. More than 1000 widowed and abandoned women and their families participate in these programs.
